Imagining a future playground by blending digital and construction play.

intro to playground

The Wonder Playground, is a concept of urban play space, designed for construction play and digital play. It gives free space for kids to stack cubes as their wishes and tap the cubes to try out different color themes.

Play story

Most urban play spaces lack flexibility and offer limited play time and options. What if we make a playspace to be freely build by wish and extend play time?

DESIGN pt. 1

The Playhouse

There is a playhouse in this play space, which is fixed to the ground. It is a base for playing and building around.

The shape of the playhouse is designed for hanging, running in and out, hiding. I designed a "window", it can be also considered as anything in game. Possibly, it is a transparent OLed screen which brings the play to next level.

DESIGN pt. 2

Light cubes

These cubes are moveable in the playground, can be lighted up when it is attached to the playhouse's cubes. They can be either stacked and adsorption on the main frame or build aside depends on how kids want to play.

ideation

Reimagining Urban Playgrounds

This is a part of the ideation for this project, showing some sketches I made of the interactive playground concept. Most of the concepts are thought to developing kids’ motor skills, interactive and some digital content.

Design by playing

After settling on the concept of an interactive space, I utilized Lego bricks to construct several three-dimensional models. As evident in Figure 2, these models bear a close resemblance to the final design. This modeling session was instrumental in helping me envision the user experience within the space.
